Had a bit of a sleep in today, jet lag starting to hit and the weather didn’t look so great outside. Today was Leon’s shopping day…. so Computer central was our main destination. We took trains most of the day heading from one side of HK to the other in search of the latest technology in all the boy toys. The MTR system in HK is so efficient there is never any waiting for a train but heaps of walking in the underground subways. We experienced the longest escalator in the world (quite amazing) but of course Leon made us walk all the way down. We had to watch Charlotte closely as she was getting very confident with train travel and was jumping on trains when we were quite a way behind her.….we were imagining her on a train that closed its doors before we could catch up, as they are so fast and you have only a short time to get on before the doors shut….and then they are off at lightning speed!
In the early evening we took a cruise on an old Chinese junk to take in the symphony of lights on the harbour. Every evening in HK the main skyscrapers have their lights synchronized with music for about 40 minutes, just amazing. We had fun on the cruise, especially as free drinks were served throughout the cruise, although it did become a bit hazardous as we hadn’t eaten yet! So two very tipsy adults and one very responsible child alighted from the junk in search of dinner.
So in our happy state we decided that we should take the steepest tram in the world and experience the view from the very top of HK. Charlotte wasn’t as sure, didn’t think it would be safe and was only interested in eating something that wasn’t green or didn’t look like it had jumped straight out of the ocean onto her plate! The tram was quite busy even at 10:00pm, but the views were spectacular on the way up and we ended up eating at a Ship themed restaurant that served beige food for children in cute ship baskets and drinks in large led light flashing glasses that you could keep. We were all pleased, as the view from the restaurant was stunning and our huge beers were dazzling in their flashing glasses… vision splendid!
